The nurse was attacked at Royal Oldham Hospital on Saturday

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a nurse was stabbed at a hospital and left with life-changing injuries.

Rumon Haque, 37, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article after the incident at about 23:30 GMT on Saturday at Royal Oldham Hospital’s acute medical unit.

The nurse, a woman in her 50s, is continuing to receive treatment in hospital for her injuries, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Mr Haque, from Royton in Greater Manchester, is due to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, the force said.

‘Support’

Det Supt Matt Walker said GMP’s thoughts were with the nurse.

He said the force’s priority “remains supporting her, her family, and her colleagues at this difficult time”.

Officers were also offering support to any NHS staff affected by Saturday’s incident, Det Supt Walker added.
