Rail passengers in Surrey and Sussex are facing disruption due to a broken down freight train, rail operators have said.

Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink services are all expected to face disruption until 10:00 GMT on Monday.

The train has broken down between East Croydon and London Victoria but disruption is affecting services from the South East to and from the capital.

Gatwick Express said its services between London Victoria and Brighton, via Gatwick Airport, would be cancelled until further notice.

Southern services between Reigate and Victoria and stopping services between Gatwick and Victoria are also cancelled, as well as services from Eastbourne and Epsom.

Trains between Portsmouth Harbour/Bognor Regis and Victoria will only run as far as Gatwick Airport, the operator added.

Ticket acceptance has been agreed between Southern, Thameslink, South Western Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.

Anyone who arrives at their destination more than 15 minutes late will be entitled to compensation.
